MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT FOR AUGUST, 2010

Our thanks to everyone for coming out to the business meeting for August. We had a great turn out. I can’t believe this is the last full week of August already. Somewhere along the chain of events I have lost about four months of time. It’s been a nice summer so far, and hopefully we won’t have any of the predicted storms hit us, like all of the weathermen are hoping.

Since it is the last of August, and the next meeting is in September, I would just say that it isn’t too early to start carving Christmas ornaments for the show on December 4th. As quick as this year is going by, it will be here before we know it. We will be talking about the positions that need to be filled for the show at our next meeting.

If you have any items that you want to place in the raffle, even if they are not finished, would you please let us know what they are. If you have any of the carvings for the ark that Pam passed out, you may turn them in at the next meeting or in October.

If you have any canes or plaques or eagle heads for the Lean-On-Me project, bring them in for showing at the next meetings. We will have cutouts for the Lean-on-Me Project at the next meeting, and Jim has them available during the carving sessions. We will be making a presentation at the fall picnic. This is an ongoing and very worthwhile project, so let’s keep it going.

Our next scheduled event is the fall picnic, which will be held on Saturday, October 30th. It is going to be held at the East Inverness Community Center, and it will be a covered dish event. I will have sign-up slips available at the September meeting, so think about how many in your family will be attending.

The next business meeting will be on Friday, September 3rd, at the library. Don’t stay at home, because there are going to be good times had by all.

Dave Melton,

President

Secretary’s Report for August 2010

President Dave Melton opened our meeting with the pledge to our country’s flag.

There were 28 members in attendance and we welcomed 3 guest.

The June Secretary’s report was approved by all members present.

The June Treasurer’s report was approved by all members present.

Treasurer’s report was not available at meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Dave reminded everyone that we still have cutouts for the Lean On Me project. They are always available at the carving sessions from Dave or Jim. Please bring any you have finished. And Dave thanked everyone for participating in this program.

Dave also told everyone that we still have shirts available if anyone needs one. The cost of the shirts for members are $20. The club will continue to subsidizing $3 for each shirt.

The next big event for our club will be the Fall Picnic. Dave told everyone that the picnic will be at the East Inverness Community Hall on Hwy 44 east. It will be held on October 30th from 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM. This will be a Pot Luck lunch so everyone please bring a covered dish to share. Dave also said there would be a tool raffle, and we are thinking about having a ornament exchange or a gift exchange with a $7 limit. He said we would let everyone know at the next meeting. There will also be a free table and a for sale table.

Dave also reminded everyone that we need someone to volunteer to be treasurer starting next year. If anyone is interested please contact George Marshall for information about the job. Also Dave said it was his last year as president and Jim will be taking over that spot . We also need a volunteer to be the club historian starting next year.

Christmas ornaments are also available to be carved. See Pam Jones for cutouts. Dave reminded everyone it is not too early to start carving them. We need 250 for the Christmas tree at the carving show and that date is really not that far away. We really only have 3 more meeting before the show. The cutouts are available at carving sessions and after the meeting. Dave called on Pam Jones to give a report on the Christmas ornaments and the Noah’s Ark project. She reminded everyone to please carve the ornaments on both sides….we are a carving club. Pam also said that all the animals have been handed out and she has already received some of them back. Please have them turned in by the October meeting. Doug Hutchinson has volunteered to build the ark

Dave reminded everyone that we have been neglecting the library fund. Please don‘t forget to put your dollar in for the library fund. And Dave told everyone to check out the books the library buys with the money we give them.

Dave also gave everyone a update on our members that have been under the weather. Bill Colby is doing good and back to carving sessions from hip surgery. Keith is at home and doing well. Marylou is at home after 2 weeks in the hospital. Kent Cales is doing well after his heart problems. We also had some sad news at the death of Manley Hunt on July 3rd and Dick Fallen shared some sad news that his wife has lung cancer. He asked for prayers for her.

NEW BUSIESS:

The 50/50 drawing was brought up and suggested that we draw 2 names for the money instead of the one name. It was passed by all present.
